It looks like Marvel Studios have been busy bees lately! About two weeks ago we found out that Tatiana Maslany was going to be taking on the role of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk. We also got a teaser trailer for the upcoming WandaVision series. Last but certainly not least, we also learned that Nick Fury would have his own series. Finally, we are starting to see some progress in the highly anticipated Disney+ Marvel series that we had been promised. Today we got word of another Marvel character that has been cast!

Via Deadline we have learned that Marvel Studios has found its Ms. Marvel. They have cast newcomer Iman Vellani to star in the Disney+ series based on the comic book character. Recently they had also named Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon as directors. Marvel’s plan was always about finding the right actress that would stay true to the character. Even if it meant showcasing someone that is not well known to the general audience. This marks Vellani’s first major Hollywood production.

Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American teen based in New Jersey. She first appeared in comics back in 2014 by writer Bisha K. Ali. She is Marvel Comics’ first Muslim character to star in her own title. Now she is set to become Marvel Studios’ first onscreen Muslim hero. The head of all things Marvel, Kevin Feige, has commented that along with being featured on the small screen, she will also be included in future Marvel films.

As a comic book fan, I am excited that we are going to see more diverse characters hit our screens. With DC characters all over the map, it’s about time that we get more Marvel characters. Although I am not too familiar with Ms. Marvel, I look forward to learning more about her in the near future. Good luck to Vellani on the role! We hope she rocks it!
