The latest Fantastic Four Barside Buzz is that Marvel talked to Mads Mikkelsen about the Doctor Doom role. The information comes from John Campea on his new show, but be wary. Campea is not saying Marvel has cast Mikkelsen, or that he’s even the favorite for them. All Campea has heard is that Mads is one of the names they’ve spoken to about Doom, and that’s it.

The other aspect we must consider here is that we don’t know for certain whether Doom shows up in any meaningful way in the Fantastic Four movie. It is possible Doom is being kept for a cameo as it seems Galactus will be the main antagonist (he’s not a villain) of this film.

However, you can bet your bottom dollar that Marvel is bringing in Doom and he won’t be a one and done. Doom is likely Marvel’s most famous and perhaps its greatest villain from the comics. However the character has failed to embed himself into the non-comic reading pop culture due to some poor re-imaginings of his character. Though for myself, or probably anyone who read Marvel comics as a kid, Doom is number one.

So no one right now is saying Mikkelsen is anywhere close to being a done deal. Though, to be fair, this casting situation is literally updating daily right now. However, let’s pretend Mikkelsen is the front runner. I’m 100% on board with Mads as Doom in the MCU. He’s kinda already played a similar role as Grindelwald in the most recent Fantastic Beasts movie. However Mikkelsen’s range means he’s played a number of villains already. Reason being, he’s bloody good at it.

One sticking point Marvel fans may have is that Mikkelsen has already been a villain in the MCU. Mads played Kaecilius in Doctor Strange. However, I do think we need to bear in mind that Doom will wear his mask, (or should wear his mask) 95% of the time. When we do ever see Doom remove his mask, he should be heavily scarred facially. Therefore he should not immediately make one think of Kaecilius. There’s also the fact we are now in a Multiverse where Marvel were interested in Gyllenhall for Reed Richards and he was the main antagonist of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

In other words, don’t rule out Mikkelsen for this fact alone.
