Peacemaker Suicide Squad Prequel Series With John Cena By James Gunn Ordered By HBO Max

About a month ago we finally got our first look at the upcoming DC film from Warner Bros. Suicide Squad from director James Gunn. While there wasn’t a trailer we go to see a fun behind the scenes clip of some of the production. We also learned what actor was playing what character in the film. The film is currently scheduled for an August 2021 release. With Suicide Squad about eleven months away would it be too soon to start talking spin-offs?

Nope, not according to HBO Max. Today it has been announced that the WarnerMedia has given a straight-to-series order to an action-adventure-comedy series centering around John Cena’s Peacemaker via The Hollywood Reporter. This will be written by Gunn, who will also direct a few episodes including the first. John Cena will reprise is the role from the upcoming film which is said to explore the origins of the character.

The first season will contain eight episodes. Gunn and Peter Safran will serve as executive producers. Cena will be acting as a co-executive producer. Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company are the two companies involved with Warner Bros. Television. They are trying to have this go into production in early 2021 before Gunn begins his work on Marvel Studio’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Peacemaker

Peacemaker is a DC character from the 60’s that first published by Charlton Comics, who was then acquired by DC. His name is Christopher Smith and he believes that peace should be achieved at any cost, even if you have to kill for it. The character has been a favorite among WB executives even being called “scene-stealing” in early cuts of the film.

This is not a move that I expected from WB. They seem to really be pushing as much DC content as they can to HBO Max. As a fan of the characters, this is an exciting time. Especially noting that it’s coming from amazing creators like Gunn, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves. Now we add that to whats going on in The CW, animated films, feature film, video games, and comics. I would say that we have a healthy amount of DC coming our way.
