The Skywalker Saga has come to an end after more than four decades. For me, the trilogy was mediocre, yet, an acceptable ending to the story that many of us grew up loving. Disney’s sequel trilogy wasn’t perfect for sure, and while I am very critical of it, there were moments and characters that I enjoyed.
An interesting photo from the set of the final installment to both the latest trilogy and the saga overall, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The image shows the trilogy’s heroine, Rey, sitting upon the throne of her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine. You can check it out below.

This would had been an interesting way to go, it would definitely qualify as subverting expectations. Had J.J. Abrams and company allowed Rey to give in and follow in her grandfather’s footsteps earlier in the trilogy, we could have had a very different ending to the final three chapters of the Skywalker Saga.
I feel if they always planned to bring Palpatine back, as Lucasfilm says, he should have been a bigger part of the trilogy as a whole and not just the final film. Also, if they were going to go the whole Palpatine clone route, I think they should have taken more from author Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn Trilogy. Which is an already beloved continuation of events after Return of the Jedi.
