Hartley Sawyer Fired from The CW’s The Flash
While social media is a great way to keep in touch with people with you. You can post your current events as well as your ideas and opinions on just about anything. Sometime later you may look back see how much you have changed. Never the less your posts could land in hot water with your job if they are derogatory in any way.
The tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis has raised a nationwide protest against systematic racism. Now more than ever people are pressuring the government and companies alike to take a stand against this kind of behavior. Today The Hollywood Reporter learned that actor Hartley Sawyer has been fired from The CW’s The Flash.

This sudden release is due to several misogynistic and racist tweets that have surfaced in the past few weeks. All the tweets were from before he joined the Arrowverse series. They refer to sexual assault and contain racist and homophobic language. Although his Twitter account has been deleted, screenshots of the tweets have circulated the internet.
Here is a statement from The CW, Warner Bros. TV, Berlanti Productions, and executive producer Eric Wallace:
“Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for season seven of The Flash. In regards to Mr. Sawyer’s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation. Such remarks are antithetical to our values and polices, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.”

Sawyer had been featured in The Flash for the last three seasons. He joined the series back in 2017 as Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man. He was upgraded to a series regular in 2018. Sawyer took to social media today and issued an apology for his past words. You can read it below.

It’s interesting how a lot of celebrities get caught up with past posts on social media. As always they the response is almost a cookie-cutter apology that we can almost guess the wording. We cannot judge if someone has changed/grown from the past, but we cannot condone that type of language. It makes for an uncomfortable environment. Even if one considers their posts a joke, it’s important to keep in mind that it can affect a future position and relationships.
