The Orange Lightsabers in Ahsoka Are Very Deliberate Says Dave Filoni

Dave Filoni comments on the possibility of recasting Baylan Skoll due to the tragic passing of actor Ray Stevenson for the first time.

It’s all Star Wars news today from me folks as Dave Filoni says the orange Lightsabers in Ahsoka are a very deliberate choice. Fans of course all noticed that new Ahsoka baddies Baylon and Shin don’t have Sith or Jedi Lightsabers. Instead the color is more mixed, and that orange tinge was absolutely by design. Check out what Filoni had to say when speaking with Screen Rant post SWC.

“I made it a little bit more orange. That’s really good eye. You’re the first person to catch that. That was very intentional. I didn’t make them just a stark red, I remember as a kid that Vader’s lightsaber kind of fluctuated from visual effects to being a little bit more orange. I didn’t want to go straight up orange, but it’s identifying a little bit of something to kids that they might not straight up be what you think they are in the beginning. It’s good you caught that. Nothing is accidental.”

“You’re the first person to catch that.” Yeah, I doubt that Dave, I’m sure it was just the first reporter who mentioned it. I mean unless millions of fans worldwide are color blind then we could see those were orange. Did you really not think anyone would notice?

Anyway, what does this tell us? I think we have to go by Filoni’s own words. “they might not straight up be what you think they are in the beginning.” Well, if that’s what you were going for, I think you succeeded Dave. Can I call you Dave? Thanks. We can assume that there is nothing straightforward with these two. Clearly there is darkness there, but perhaps they have not gone full evil just yet? An orange saber in canon ( I looked it up) seems to indicate a grey Jedi, (or gray if you speak a West Atlantic version of English).

Where we go from here who knows? We know there are rumors that Baylon was a Jedi not present during Order 66. However I’ve heard little about where their story might be going.

What do you think as Dave Filoni says the orange Lightsabers in Ahsoka are a very deliberate choice? Thoughts below as always on the latest Star Wars news.
