Tom Holland Confirms Spider-Man 4 On Hold Due To WGA Strike

Spider-Man 4 rumors, with Feige apparently too busy to make the film when Sony wants, plus he wants a different story.

This week we heard a first confirmation from Sony producer Amy Pascal that Spider-Man 4 was in development. Now star Tom Holland confirms that development on Spider-Man 4 is on hold due to the WGA strike. Essentially, Holland says the same as Pascal. There is a Spider-Man 4, they are talking through it and working out where it goes with Marvel Studios. However, that’s all been dropped until the WGA strike is sorted. Which makes perfect sense considering you need to start with writing.

Spider-Man 4, or whatever it will really be called, has never officially been announced. However with how much money both studios are making form this franchise so far, it was always going to be a relationship that stuck around. Spider-Man: No Way Home was Sony’s biggest film of all time remember, though they did have to share profits with Disney.

Here is what Holland said when speaking with Variety.

“I can’t talk about that, but I can say that we have been having meetings. We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers,” Holland said. “There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages.”

Pascal had previously said,

“Are we going to make another movie? Of course we are,” Pascal said. “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

I guess all that remains is to speculate on what they should do with Spider-Man 4? That of course will all depend on what we all individually want to see, and therefore vary from fan to fan. I’ll controversially say that although I want Peter to be stalking MJ and Ned a little, I’d rather have the film’s focus not be on that. I would not want to see Peter’s friends situation get resolved until further movie. For me, I’d love to see The Osborn’s appear in the MCU, and Peter to meet Harry at college. As far as villains go, I’d love to see Scorpion.

The character has been teased already in Homecoming and the fact no one knows who Spider-Man now is could set up a nice scenario. Let’s say Wilson Fisk (potential Big Bad) is having some trouble with this street level hero Spider-Man? It doesn’t take much of a leap for Fisk to use stolen Stark, or alien tech to make Scorpion into something of a monster and send him after Pete.

I’d just like a self-contained story showing Peter’s development and exploring Marc Gargan. I kinda want to feel sorry for Gargan by the end, and what he becomes. You normally always need to have that in a Spider-Man villain. If Peter could just deal with very evil guys all the time, it would be too easy. Yet, I’d like to see a tease that MJ and Ned aren’t gone, even if only there in cameos, and that the Osborn story will lead to an inevitable conclusion.

What would you like to see in Spider-Man 4? What did you think of his comments as Tom Holland confirms that development on Spider-Man 4 is on hold due to the WGA strike? Thoughts below as always.
